OUR STORY
For us, jewelry has never been just something beautiful to wear.
It carries memories, marks important moments, and often becomes connected to the people we love most.
Calhoun Jewelry began in Charleston in 1978 with a simple love for timeless, meaningful jewelry. Over the years, our little shop became much more than a business. It became a place filled with familiar faces, conversations across the counter, and pieces that went on to become part of someone else's story.
BUILT TOGETHER, MOTHER
& DAUGHTER
For years, my daughter and I built Calhoun Jewelry side by side.
We spent countless days choosing pieces, arranging displays, helping customers, packing orders, and talking about everything from jewelry to life.
She brought fresh ideas and a younger perspective. I brought the experience that comes from spending so many years behind a jewelry counter.
Together, we created something that felt completely our own.
We never wanted Calhoun Jewelry to feel like a large, impersonal jewelry company. We wanted it to feel like the kind of shop where someone remembers your name, takes the time to listen, and genuinely cares about helping you find something special.
That has always been at the heart of what we do.
OUR LITTLE SHOP IN
CHARLESTON
Charleston has always felt like the perfect home for Calhoun Jewelry.
There is something about this city that understands the value of things with history. The old streets, longtime family businesses, beautiful homes, and traditions passed from one generation to the next have always felt closely connected to the way we see jewelry.
We have always been drawn to pieces that feel timeless rather than temporary.
A ring that reminds you of someone.
A necklace you reach for year after year.
A bracelet connected to a birthday, anniversary, or moment you never want to forget.
Those are the pieces that have always meant the most to us.
MORE THAN JEWELRY
Some of my favorite memories from all these years have had very little to do with selling jewelry.
They came from the stories people shared with us.
Mothers choosing something for their daughters. Daughters finding a gift for their mothers. Women celebrating anniversaries, birthdays, new beginnings, or simply choosing something beautiful for themselves.
We watched customers return over the years, sometimes bringing another generation of their family through the same door.
That is what made this little shop so special.
Behind almost every piece was a reason, a person, or a memory.
And to us, that was always worth far more than the jewelry itself.
A NEW CHAPTER
Life has a way of changing even the things we thought would stay the same forever.
My daughter has now begun a new chapter of her life overseas, far from Charleston.
I could not be more proud of her.
But after spending so many years building and running this shop together, I slowly had to accept that continuing it alone would never feel the same.
Making the decision to close this chapter has not been easy.
This shop holds decades of memories for me. Every display case, jewelry box, and familiar corner reminds me of the life we built here together.
ONE FINAL THANK YOU
As this chapter comes to an end, what I feel most is gratitude.
Gratitude for every person who walked through our doors.
For every customer who returned.
For every kind message, recommendation, order, conversation, and story shared with us over the years.
You helped turn a small family jewelry shop in Charleston into something far bigger and more meaningful than my daughter and I ever imagined.
As the final pieces leave our shop and find new homes, I hope they continue doing what jewelry has always done best: carrying memories forward.
Thank you for supporting our family, for trusting us with your special moments, and for being part of the Calhoun Jewelry story.
With love,
Margaret Calhoun Founder, Calhoun Jewelry 🤍
